Information and Referral Services
Overview
The senior population is composed of many who are vigorous, healthy, and independent. But for those who suffer from declining health, the result can be physical and/or financial problems. The following are health support systems the Senior Center offers that are designed to help seniors maintain a lifestyle with appropriate independence and dignity.

Blood Pressure Screenings
Free blood pressure screenings are available once a month through volunteer nurses and staff. No appointment is necessary. Check the Senior Center newsletter to see when these screenings are available at the Senior Center in Wauseon and at each nutrition site.

Blood Sugar Level Checks
Heartland of Wauseon provides a nurse at the Senior Center in Wauseon to check blood sugar levels for seniors each month. This service is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is generally scheduled for 10:15 on the first Friday morning of each month. Information will be in the newsletter and you may call the center to learn if there have been any changes to the schedule.

Supportive Services
Senior Center staff members are available to identify needs, provide information, make referrals, and assist Fulton County seniors in obtaining various services such as Social Security benefits and Medicaid and in making protective service referrals. Seniors may also pick up applications for weatherization, home heating, home repair, and energy assistance when these programs are available.

Medical Insurance Assistance
Another program the center offers is Medical Insurance Assistance, which helps clients in filing insurance claims and assists in making sure that all claims are filed properly and all entitled monies have been paid to the patient. This Ohio Department of Insurance (OSHIIP) referral service is provided by experienced staff at the Senior Center. To make an appointment, please call our Referral/Insurance Specialist at (419) 337-9299.

A donation to the center for this vital service is most appreciated.
