Rankin, Assistant Secretary of State To Present Better Lives,
Better Ohio Initiative |
Regional
Representative for the Ohio Secretary of State, Brenda Griffith,
began the presentation. She distributed materials and
explained the functions of the Secretary of State’s Office,
including record keeping, initiating businesses and business
filings. She referred to the Secretary of State’s website and
gave an overview of the program. She further demonstrated how
to navigate through the website. She noted that on Tuesday,
March 16, 2010 their office will hold an ag research seminar at
the Four County Career Center. Key speakers will be from
Fulton, Henry, Williams, Defiance, and Wood Counties. The
purpose is to help people access all available resources and
information available to them.
Mr. Mike
Rankin, Assistant Secretary of State, joined the meeting at
10:34 a.m. Before turning the meeting over to Mr. Rankin, Ms.
Griffith expressed the importance of taking the time to
participate in the census reporting. She explained that many
opportunities that become available to communities, such as
grant funds, are based on the census. She stated that it only
takes 10 minutes to complete the questions.
Ms.
Griffith introduced Mr. Rankin. Mr. Rankin stated that he we
previously the Ohio State Registrar and even then, he did not
have any statistics relating to the BMV. He stated that ever
since Jennifer Brunner, Secretary of State, was running for
office in 2006, she felt the importance to allow people to have
good access to public information, and to be able to find it all
in one place. This new initiative, Better Lives, Better
Ohio, was launched for everyone to be able to compare
statistics and diagnose issues that their community may be
having. He explained that it was all done internally and
that no extra staff or agency was hired to produce the
information.
He stated
that recently there has been a decrease in business filings and
briefly discussed local economies and the job market. He stated
that good planning and being proactive will help get through
these times. The Board thanked Mr. Rankin for his time.
Commissioner Genter noted that Mr. Rankin will be visiting two
businesses this afternoon that have survived through these
times. |
