·Gary Smith, Esq., Fulton County Law
Library Resources Board To Discuss LLRB's Request to Increase
Appropriations |
Mr. Hall presented the Board with a fund
summary of the LLRB Account and an expense report. He stated
that the LLRB, under the new Board is now required, like other
departments, to put together a budget. Mr. Gary Smith arrived
and Commissioner Genter explained that he has been asked here to
discuss the main purpose of the LLRB and the recent request of
the LLRB for an increase of appropriations. Mr. Smith stated
that the LLRB’s main purpose is so attorneys within the county
have access to research materials. The Law Library is also
available to the public, however public use is very nominal.
Mr. Hall explained that with the start of the new year, the LLRB
is responsible for coordinating all research material. The
purchases go through the governing board. They make the
determination to purchase the materials. He stated that in the
event an appointing authority would like to make a purchase and
it is denied by the LLRB, that appointing authority would then
be able to come to the Board of Commissioners and request to
make the purchase out of their own budget.
Commissioner Barnaby inquired of Mr. Smith
how many attorneys per month use the resources. Mr. Smith
stated that a number of 15-20 would be close, maybe more.
Commissioner Barnaby asked how often the attorneys use the
online resources. Mr. Smith replied that it varies on the
attorney and the kind of cases they handle. There is no
marginal assessment for use available. Commissioner Genter
asked why the LLRB is paying for on-line access for all the law
firms. Mr. Smith stated that it is handled this way in all
local counties, such as Williams and Henry so the attorneys have
the materials needed to properly represent their clients.
Commissioner Genter asked how often the
LLRB meets each year and when the next meeting is. Mr. Smith
stated that the last meeting was on December 14th and
the next meeting has not been set. |
