·Review Cost Estimates for Vehicle Repair

Mr. Hall presented the Board with cost estimates for the Boards review to have a van repainted that has rust issues and the paint is no longer adhering to the body.  No decision was made.

Kim Bowles, SWCD and Curt Jones

Kim Bowles and Curt Jones were present for the discussion.  They presented the Board with a written report for their review and discussed the following:

 

  1. Pete Carr and the NRCS technicians have prepared conservation plans for structures, water-ways, filter strips, windbreaks, oak savannas, riparian buffers, linked loan applications and EAPP applications.
  2. Mr. Carr also started surveying and staking windbreaks and started on some site prep for the windbreaks.
  3. They have received all tree seedlings for the windbreak program.  They hope to start planting seedlings by April 1st.
  4. They have picked up their first round of warm and cool season grasses for planting filter strips, riparian buffers, and oak savannas.  They plan to start planting the seeds this week if ground conditions permit.
  5. Mike Weaver, District Conservationist, has been making CSP payment this past month.  Since November 24, 2008, he strictly worked on CSP and EQIP audits for the USDA.
  6. Dan Bruner has been assisting landowners in the application process for the AEPP.  He will be meeting with the townships in April for resolutions to support these applications.  He has completed 6 CNMP plans and 1 composting plan.
  7. Amanda Podach has been doing programs in schools everyday, with the exception of Monday, which is her office day to prepare for upcoming school programs and plan other SWCD programs.  She is also being cross-trained on accounting procedures and payroll.
  8. The annual meeting planning committee has met and they have developed a budget, and contracted Farm Broadcaster, Dale Minyo as a speaker. Commissioner Short will emcee this event scheduled for December 3, 2009.
  9. Jack Rupp has replaced Phil Aeschliman on the SWCD Board, since January 2009.
  10. They have been selling a lot of bird, bat and wood duck houses and feeders for all types of wildlife, including butterfly feeders.  This has encourages a lot of people coming into the office who have never been there or knew about them.
  11. They are fully utilizing the SWIMS web based program.  They are required by the Division of Soil and Water Resources to utilize the SWIMS program in order to receive state matching funds.
  12. They will be conduction a conservation workshop on March 25th from 6-9 at the Robert Fulton Ag Center.  Topics covered by various speakers will include:  cover crops, buffers for cropland, quail buffers and State Acres for Wildlife Enhancement.
  13. They have taken 2 Flooplain Easement Purchase Program applications so far.
