Triangular Processing - Continue Discussion of Recycling
Partnership |
Brenda Oyer and members of the Board were
present, Kathy Stockenberger of Triangular Processing; Ed Roth
and Don Krieger from Solid Waste; Nancy Yackee and Carla Rice
from the Auditor's Office were present for the discussion as
well. Jerry Matheny arrived also.
Kathy gave a brief overview of what Triangular Processing is
doing. Commissioner Genter also aired some concerns from the
county standpoint. Glass and aluminum will continue to be the
biggest recycling items and Commissioner Genter stressed that
taking over the recycling in Wauseon will not be in direct
competition with Triangular but rather the Board is interested
in working together.
Kathy said their goal is to rely less in the future on the Board
of DD for their financial support. Brenda added that the last
couple years, Triangular has come a long way and has not needed
cross payment for client wages. Kathy said the clients' quality
of life is extremely important and they know that what they are
doing is important and not "make-up" work. Commissioner Barnaby
said it's in all our interests to be successful.
Commissioner Genter said that all the space out there now, other
than the office space, will be made available for Triangular.
The warehouse will have to be shared. A three-year agreement
will be had with the CIty of Wauseon so a similar timeline for
an agreement with Triangular.
Mr. Matheny said that being in recycling in the past, he thinks
that everyone is in for a rude awakening. He added that Mr. Roth
and Mr. Krieger cannot do it themselves. He noted a drawback of
using community service people- they will not know the recycling
procedure and to take the time to teach them would not be
feasible. Commissioner Genter said that Mr. Matheny is correct
in his statement that the County intends to use community
service peope but whether it will work or not remains to be
seen. Commissioner Short commented that two other full-time
people from the Transfer Station will be used to staff.
Mr. Matheny added that the community service people will not be
a constant. He also said that he has a desire to see community
service people work but he hopes that the Commissioners leave a
window open for the Triangular people to come through.
March 1 is the target date for the county to take over Wauseon
Recycling. Details still are being worked out. Kathy said she is
also a county employee as well as watching over the well being
of her clients...if the community service people do not work
out, she would hope that the Commissioners would bring
Triangular to the table for discussions as to what the clients
might contribute.
Commissioner Genter said that an appointment will be set up to
work with Vond Hall by the end of this week to move things
forward. |
